Iveys Background
At the very beginning of his successful career Phil played in casinos in Atlantic City, even though he was only 18 years old. He used a fake ID, alias “Jerome.” At his very young age, He would perfect his poker faces against professional players. He obviously lost some money, but that was the price to pay to reach the top.
Phil Ivey finally began to play in tournament circuits in 2000. He was 24 years old when he won his first WSOP bracelet, beating Phil Hellmuth, David Ulliot and Amarillo Slim on the final table in the $2,500 Pot-Limit Omaha event.
The list of his achievements is very long, but one of his most impressive ones is the three WSOP bracelets that he won during the same year in 2002. A feat that was only also accomplished by Phil Hellmuth and Ted Forrest. In 2000 he was the first player to knock out Amarillo Slim in Head’s up. Phil Ivey also realized an incredible streak, remaining in the top 25 players of the WSOP Main Event, between 2002 and 2005. He finished in 23rd place in 2002, in 10th place in 2003 and in 20th in 2005, and he will play on the final table in November 2009. Already winning two bracelets, 2009 looks to be a equally profitable year for Phil Ivey.
