Mike Matusow biography

Mike Matusow a poker player that cannot be ignored. No one can remain indifferent when playing against him. He talks all the time rarely saying anything nice and most of the time just talking trash. This is why Mike got his nickname, “the mouth.” Obviously a player as good and entertaining as Mike attracts the cameras.

Mike began to play poker in 1989 thanks to professional poker player, Steve Samaroff. In 1990 he became a dealer but quickly gave it up to spend his time playing poker.

For a professional poker player “the Mouth” has a special reputation. He can blow up in one hand and give all his chips away. He is like a bomb which needs to explode once in a while. Even though Mike makes unexplainable decisions, he is one of the best players in the world. He is ranked 22nd with more $7 Million earned in tournaments.

Mike is also a member of the Full tilt poker Team, although he has difficulties playing online. He prefers to play live, where he can use his trash-talking speeches to get a better read of his opponents.

Anecdote

Being a big gambler, Mike Matusow made a crazy bet of $100,000 against Ted Forrest that he could lose enough weight to weigh less than 90 kg. When the deadline came, Mike weighed 89kg.

However there was a dark side to Mike Matusow’s success. An addiction to cocaine brought him a jail sentence of 6 months between 2004 and 2005.
